Welcome to Havana Nights Gallery Show
Around 2015 I became a volunteer at a “no kill” animal shelter and thrift shop. I would check and test all the electrical and mechanical donations we would receive; many would require a new plug or switch or just a cleaning to be sold. However, on other occasions items would not be so useable at all. These would be discarded and sent off to the landfill.
This truly bothered me and with my background in electrical work I decided to give some of these items a new lease on life; this is when LIGHT-ARTS was born to “Restore Reuse & Repurpose.” The fixtures would begin as tabletop household appliances and the like and would undergo a complete dismantle and reassembly, using high quality parts that are UL approved for the utmost safety during the transformation.
Each of my pieces is a labor of affection and carries a quirky name arrived at during the Reassembly process. After showing my work at several art shows and farmers markets, I was commissioned to produce unique personal items to celebrate such things as baseball, tennis, medical arts, computers, and vintage phone and camera collections. Most recently I have produced fixtures to celebrate Cigar enthusiasts and automotive collections. I have made and sold over 40 pieces and still maintain a catalogue of pieces for sale.
To this day, I still volunteer at the “no kill” shelter, however I do peruse other shops and flea markets for interesting potential projects. I try very hard to use parts that may be discarded in hopes they may find a new life…maybe on your counter or desk top.
